Information About Form 1098TWhy did I receive a 1098T? Educational institutions are required by law to report to students the amount of qualified tuition and related expenses that have been billed to the student during the calendar year. The College of Charleston has reported the qualified expenses billed during the calendar year. *Please note: The amount paid on the student's behalf is not recorded on the 1098T. Only qualified expenses in the fiscal year they are billed are recorded on the form. How do I use the 1098T for tax purposes? The College of Charleston urges you to contact a tax professional regarding the application of this form to your taxes. Employees of the College of Charleston cannot provide tax advice. When Will I receive my 1098T? The 1098T form is processed and mailed by an outside agency, ECSI. The forms are mailed to the student between January 15 and January 31. If you have questions about the qualified charges on your 1098T, you may call 888-549-3274. I have lost my 1098T. How can I obtain the information again? Additional copies of your 1098T are available on Cougar Trail or on ECSI's web site www.ecsi.net/1098T or by calling ECSI at 888-549-3274. Our school code is Q7. It is the policy of the College not to fax 1098T's as they have personal information regarding our students. Please make use of the two web sites for additional copies of the tax form.
